Carolina Headlines - Automotive

GASTONIA, NC – Italy-based REPI S.p.A. will construct a multi-functional facility to serve its customers in the Americas in the Gastonia Technology Park. The facility will house the divisional corporate office, manufacturing, research & development, customer service and distribution for REPI.

Customers in North, South and Central America will be able to have their product needs met with this new plant. The initial investment will be US$5.5 million, and at full operations the company will employ up to 30 persons. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of March with the completion of the facility to occur by fourth quarter 2011.

“It is a distinct pleasure today to realize the vision of expanding a family owned private business from Italy into North Carolina and particularly into the Technology Park that the leaders here in Gastonia prepared with their vision and investment in the anticipation companies would come” stated Dr. Ferruccio Angiolini, president of REPI S.p.A.

“Since opening a satellite laboratory, sales and administrative office in Charlotte in 2003 our market position has grown and the advanced research and technical services we implement has built a strong level of customer loyalty. The expansive market we serve for liquid colorants and additives for polyurethane used in the automotive, footwear, coating and furniture markets as well as a strong position to expand into thermoplastics for soft drink bottles and cosmetics in the near future make location here a strategic option. Our company, focused on corporate social responsibility, operates a chemical environment that has been acclaimed for excellence in automation, clean technology, waste minimization and exceeding regulatory expectations,” Angiolini further stated.

The parent company REPI S.p.A. was founded in 1973 and will support REPI LLC as it grows. The initial 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art, energy-efficient facility is projected to double within 3 years. This US operation will serve the entire western hemisphere and be actively represented in trade and industry shows throughout the region. Technical training, employment services and, particularly, access to the NC Polymer Center of Excellence, put Gastonia at the top of the list of sites considered.

“What a wonderful month March 2011 has been for Gaston County. REPI S.p.A. has chosen the Gastonia Technology Park for their Americas divisional facility. I along with the rest of the commissioners, am extremely fortunate to have a fine global leader in REPI come to the Gastonia Technology Park,” Gaston County Commission Chair Donnie Loftis said. “The recruitment of quality international firms was one of the reasons for the creation of the GTP. We knew that if we were to compete for quality projects, Gaston County had to provide a truly world class setting. We are so excited to welcome REPI to our community.”

“The Gaston County Board of Commissioners will continue to work to build on this lifelong partnership with REPI S.p.A.," Loftis added. "We have a great workforce and a great business park. We are a very pro-business county. We welcome this great addition and others that are looking for a great place to locate.”
