CoC Event Hosts German-Based SC Companies

University News - Events

CHARLESTON, SC – College of Charleston German and International Business majors got an important lesson in corporate responsibility and cross-cultural cooperation on Tuesday evening, March 23, 2010. The College and representatives from several German-based SC companies met with students at a social gathering in a joint effort to put these students, most of whom are seniors graduating in May, to work through internships.

The event, co-hosted by the Global Business Resource Center of the School of Business and the Department of German and Slavic Studies, brought together a select group of German-based SC firms that included Weber Automotive of Summerville, Symrise and LANXESS of Goose Creek, Daimler Manufacturing and Rotorion North America of Ladson, and Rodl & Partner CPAs from Greenville. Also in attendance, representing a link to German-based enterprises all over the state, was the Director of the South Carolina Chapter of the German-American Chamber of Commerce.

According to Kathryn Banks, associate director of the Global Business Resource Center, “For the College of Charleston students, this exchange represented a bright spot in the otherwise gloomy news reports of corporate malfeasance and high unemployment. For our German corporate guests, the evening was an opportunity to discover just what a College of Charleston German or international business major can do for their companies. It was the proverbial win-win encounter.”
